Log Processing Specialist

Job Description:
Timberlands Limited (TL) is a leading NZ based Forest Management Company with expertise in forest management and operations on a significant scale. Based in Rotorua, TL manage 190,000ha of forest in the central North Island with an annual harvest of 4.4 million tonnes, and 32 log and stem crews.

We are seeking an experienced Log Processing Specialist on a service contract basis (initial 12-month term).

We are looking for an individual with the following attributes:

  • An experienced processer operator
  • Has a passion for harvesting and quality log products
  • A real people person who can train log processing operators as required
  • Able to differentiate between machine setup and quality issues to improve quality outturn from crews
  • Understands the CPU’s (central processing units) of the four main brands (Woodsman, Waratah, Satco and Southstar) - not limited
  • Can check and advise on machine file setups
  • Can learn and understand TL’s log grades and specs
  • Mechanical experience preferred, so doesn’t mind getting dirty
  • Can prepare and report findings in a timely manner
  • A strong Health and Safety focus
This is an in-forest role with very limited time in office.

Forest Engineering Supervisor

Job Description:
Forest Management (NZ) Limited (FMNZ) manage 27,000 hectares of forest estate located predominantly in the Hawkes Bay and Gisborne areas. As a company, FMNZ values integrity, innovation and are committed to delivering services that exceed expectations.

We are currently seeking a Forest Engineering Supervisor to join our team. Reporting to the Harvest Manager, the role involves the planning and management of forest road construction including liaison with contractors to ensure operational requirements are met.

Practical experience in road construction is essential for this position. Our ideal candidate would come from a harvest or forest engineering background and would ideally have a relevant tertiary qualification.

Job Specification:

  • Planning and supervising construction of harvest roading infrastructure
  • Assistance with preparation of annual budgets, forecasts and reporting
  • Monitoring contractor performance and progress
  • Maintaining effective communication with contractors and stakeholders
  • Maintaining appropriate environmental standards
  • Promotion and compliance with health & safety standards
  • Working closely with the harvest team
Person Specification:
  • Industry experience in harvest road construction and maintenance
  • The ability to work to deadlines and budgets
  • High levels of honesty and integrity
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong communication / relationship management skills
  • Computer literacy
The position will be based at our Napier office with some travel outside the area.

Environmental / Consents Supervisor

Job Description:

We are currently seeking an Environmental / Consents Supervisor to join our team. Reporting to the Harvest and Forest Managers, the role involves the management of environmental compliance in our forests including the obtaining and monitoring of resource consents.

Our ideal candidate would come from a forestry or resource management background and will ideally have a relevant tertiary qualification in resource management or environmental planning. Practical experience in forestry would be an advantage. The work is a mix of field and office based duties.

Job Specification:

  • Ensuring best practice environmental standards are adhered to
  • Preparing and monitoring resource consents
  • Implementing NES standards into company policies and processes
  • Maintaining effective communication with staff, contractors and stakeholders
  • Maintaining appropriate environmental standards
