Our Business Hancock Forest Management NZ Ltd (HFM NZ) protects and manages the forest assets owned by the Hancock Natural Resource Group’s investment clients. These institutional investors own 235,000 hectares of plantation forests in New Zealand, producing an annual harvest volume of almost 6 million m3. The Role In late 2017, HFM NZ conducted an extensive safety review of our log transport operations. This review focused on the safety of our distribution processes and looked at opportunities where we can continually improve our practices to maintain our position as a health and safety industry leader. From this review three new Distribution Supervisor roles were created. These roles continue to work with our contractors to make positive in roads to improving distribution safety.
We now seek a new Distribution Supervisor in our Central Region. The role will assist with building and maintaining strong partnerships between HFM NZ and haulage contractors, drivers, and harvesting contractors and their employees. This will be delivered through inclusive, approachable and visible leadership and via the following key focus areas:
Help improve safety management practices for our employees and contractors in the field in relation to our distribution processes
Ensure HFM NZ is a health and safety industry leader and support our goal to be a zero harm workplace
The ideal applicant will have experience in log truck operations, an understanding of H&S legislation, knowledge of harvesting operations and an in-depth understanding of industry standards. Most importantly, the successful applicant will be committed to the concept that all injuries are preventable and be someone who wants to make a difference. They will be an excellent communicator with the proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.

Based in Blenheim, contributing to a team providing forest management services to a range of clients primarily in the Marlborough province. The job involves planning and managing the full range of forestry activities in the province’s privately-owned commercial plantations.

Consideration will be given to applicants with:
A forestry related tertiary qualification with commercial forestry experience.
Experience in aspects of land development and silviculture for plantation forestry.
Knowledge of harvesting operations including safety, planning, production and costing monitoring.
Be self-motivating, confident and enthusiastic about working in a team position with wide variety of work and responsibilities.
Good communication skills & computer literacy.
Ability to interact with people at all levels.
Duties will include:
Planning and management of commercial forestry operations from land preparation to harvesting.
Harvest Planning and management of earthworks.
Forest valuation and due diligence projects.
Forecasting and managing environmental risks
